The story of Bowers Butchers

1932:  George opened a pork butcher’s shop in St James’ Street, King’s Lynn with a loan from his mother.  There, he created the recipe for his famous sausage.

1941:  George married Jane.

1942:  George goes to war, leaving Jane to run the business.

1943:  Richard was born, above the butchers shop in St James’ Street.

1959:  Richard joins the business, as errand boy on a bike!

1966:  Richard and George opened the present shop as a family butchers.

1969:  Richard marries Rosemarie.

1975:  George retires and closes the original shop.

1988:  Winner of the National Gold Award for Pork Sausages.

1992:  Richard judges pigs at the King’s Lynn Christmas Fatstock Show.

2010:  Winner of the Best Sausage in the King’s Lynn competition see

Runner up in the East of England Competition for the Best Pork Sausage.

2012:  National Silver Award for Pork Sausages.

2014:  Winner of the Regional Finals of the National Competition for Best Pork Sausage.

James, Richard’s nephew and George’s grandson, joins the business.

2015:  At the National Sausage Competition we picked up another Gold for our Traditional Norfolk Sauages and a Silver for our new Pork and Wherry Sausages.

2016: In May we went to the annual Pork Awards and received awards for our Pork and Wild Garlic Sausages, Pate and Pork Pies. Not only did Joy (our pie maker) collect an award this year for her Pork Pies but she also became a grandparent.

It was another great year for our Traditional Norfolk sausage, as not only did we pick up another Gold at this year National Sausage Competition, but also a Great taste award too.
